“Live theatre is a reflection of who we are, what we are, and why we are. When done well, the Purple Rose audience leaves changed… ALWAYS for the better.” -Jeff Daniels, PRTC Founder

“Four Chances” Welcome to the Michigan premiere of Annapurna by Sharr White, the first of four offerings as we begin our 24th season of bringing handcrafted, professional theatre to Southeast Michigan and the Great Lakes Region. Whether you’re attending a Michigan premiere, an American Classic, or the world premiere of a new play by a Michigan native, we offer you the opportunity four times a year to experience fresh, original productions that promise to get you talking among yourselves and feeling something new. Four chances to celebrate a special occasion with us, four chances to dine and shop in our lovely town, four chances to celebrate what it means to be human. And four chances to have a great time. Thank you for taking time out of your lives to spend an afternoon or evening with us at The Rose. Best regards,

Guy Sanville PRTC Artistic Director

DESIGNERS BARTLEY H. BAUER (Set Designer) was given the great honor many years ago of working with Jeff Daniels to create a new theatre venue for Michigan playwrights and actors. He has designed over twenty sets for The Purple Rose Theatre Company including Thy Kingdom’s Coming, Stanton’s Garage and Blithe Spirit (for which he received the Detroit News Theatre Award for Best Design). He also spent the last twenty-plus years working for many different theatre groups, notably as a faculty member of Interlochen National Music Camp and as designer/technician for Jackson Community College and many area high schools, civic theatres and community organizations. Bart works for Chelsea Lumber Company as the kitchen and bath department manager. He is a Chelsea native and lives here with his wife, two sons and a daughter.

DANNA SEGREST (Properties Designer) is starting her 24th season here at The Purple Rose Theatre Company. She has enjoyed spending half of her life in the PRTC family, since volunteering backstage for our first production, Blush at Nothing. She became an Equity Stage Manager for Shoe Man by Jeff Daniels in 1991 and stage managed many shows while training some of the PRTC’s first apprentices. Danna was also the PRTC Resource Manager from 1991 to 1996. She now wears hats as a Resident Artist, Archival Photographer and Box Office Assistant. Danna has designed props for almost all of the PRTC’s shows. She is especially happy to help the wonderfully talented Bartley Bauer with set dressings on this production. Danna is eternally grateful to Wade and Reeve.

TOM WHALEN (Sound Designer) marks his fourteenth sound design for The Purple Rose Theatre Company with this production. Tom is a PRTC Resident Artist and has appeared onstage in numerous productions, most recently as a member of the ensemble in Lovers, Liars, & Lunatics. Some of his additional sound work includes musical arrangements for the ukulele in Guys On Ice for the PRTC, original music for slide guitar in Summer and Smoke at Performance Network, original mandolin music for Twelfth Night at The Hilberry Repertory Theatre and sound design for several productions at Brewster Academy in Wolfboro, New Hampshire. Tom would like to thank Guy Sanville, Angie Ferrante, Gary Ciarkowski, the design team for Annapurna, all Purple Rose Apprenti, MMM, Dan Bilich, Lad Guest and Brad Phillips for their contributions and support.

Here’s to epic days.

THOMAS MACIAS (Assistant Stage Manager) recently finished his apprenticeship at the Purple Rose and he couldn’t be happier to continue working here. A MESSAGE FROM THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS From the beginning, The Purple Rose Theatre Company has aspired to be the beacon of American theatre. Founded in 1991 by Jeff Daniels, our mission has been to develop opportunities for theatre professionals while entertaining, enriching and building a loyal following. Audience commitment to the company has resulted in a fiscally solvent and highly respected arts and community partnership. The PRTC envisions an even brighter future with increased national visibility and enriched economic and artistic health. Well-established and critically acclaimed, The Purple Rose Theatre Company will continue to be the home of world-class, original American theatre.

The Purple Rose Theatre Company is a member of the Ann Arbor Area Chamber of Commerce, the Chelsea Area Chamber of Commerce, Culture Source, the Dexter Area Chamber of Commerce, the Greater Jackson Chamber of Commerce, and Saline Area Chamber of Commerce. Actors' Equity Association (AEA) was founded in 1913 as the first of the American actor unions. Equity's mission is to advance, promote and foster the art of live theatre as an essential component of our society. Today, Equity represents more than 40,000 actors, singers, dancers and stage managers working in hundreds of theatres across the United States. Equity members are dedicated to working in the theatre as a profession, upholding the highest artistic standards. Equity negotiates wages and working conditions and provides a wide range of benefits including health and pension plans for its members. Through its agreement with Equity, this theatre has committed to the fair treatment of the actors and stage managers employed in this production. AEA is a member of the AFL-CIO and is affiliated with FIA, an international organization of performing arts unions. For more information, visit www.actorsequity.org. 33 33

STAGE MANAGEMENT ANGIE KANE FERRANTE (Stage Manager) is proud to be a Resident Artist here at The Purple Rose. She graduated from the Wayne State University Theatre Program in 2007, and studied at The Moscow Art Theatre in Russia. Angie has worked on and off stage for theatres such as Magenta Giraffe (Detroit), The JET Theatre (West Bloomfield), and The Matrix Theatre (Detroit). She stage managed Redwood Curtain, The Vast Difference, and Miles and Ellie at the PRTC and most recently produced and directed So Long Until Tomorrow for The AKT Theatre Project in Wyandotte, MI. She would like to thank Guy for his faith and support, Michelle and Steph for all their guidance, the amazing PRTC apprentices; without them, none of this would be possible, her parents for their continued support of her life choices, and the best people in her life who stick. Here’s to epic days.

THOMAS MACIAS (Assistant Stage Manager) recently finished his apprenticeship at the Purple Rose and he couldn’t be happier to continue working here. Thomas was born in Hawaii and grew up in Rochester, NY. He graduated from the Rochester Institute of Technology in 2013. “The universe has funny ways of putting you where you need to be, and I’m lucky that I have family and friends who continue to inspire me. Thank you to them and to all the Purple Rose staff, apprenti, and artists from whom I’ve learned so much. It’s only just beginning.”

Starlight Dinner Theatre presents… What

Is Susan’s Secret?

an American farce by Michael and Susan Parker directed by Lisa Sodman Elzinga

Elderly innkeepers Michael and Susan (Chris Klaver and Kris Pecora) appear to be bordering on senility —but are clever con artists using an elaborate check-in form to trick guests into making improvements at the inn. Characters vary from the world’s most boring man, (his wife says he’s had charisma bypass surgery) to a couple on their honeymoon. Twelve guests are played by: Laura Croff Wheaton, Linda Granger, Michael Mahoney and M.D. Nelson.

By Michael Brian Ogden Directed By Guy Sanville+

June 11 - August 29, 2015

What would you miss most if everything that makes us free and civilized human beings ceased to exist? A warm shower? Clean sheets? Grocery stores? Movie theaters? Toilet paper? The war has been raging for 2 long years. No one is content. No one is secure. No one is safe from man, beast or worse. The great and terrible conflict will decide whether humanity will perish from this earth or have a new birth of hope. Michael Brian Ogden’s (Corktown, Bleeding Red) world premiere thriller digs deep into the recesses of our souls to face the monster that may be lurking in all of us. Join us for this truly unique theatrical event. *Contains violence and adult language. +Member, Stage Directors and Choreographers Society, A National Theatrical Labor Union
